Spotlight: Improving communal lighting saves thousands
The apartments at Merton Abbey Mills are located at one of London’s oldest heritage sites, and include a Grade II Listed medieval building and Victorian waterwheel. The flats are of an extremely high standard, but one issue was bothering both ourselves, as property managers, and the apartment owners: the outdated communal lighting. The innovative solution with specialists Future Lighting will save residents thousands of pounds.
Maintaining the communal lighting at Merton Abbey Mills was proving expensive, especially the cost of electricity. Gateway commissioned experts Future Lighting to design and build a new, energy-efficient lighting scheme. The solution needed to save money and energy, while complementing the Listed site. The scheme was applied across apartment lobbies, the car park, plant and refuse rooms and the external estate. Merton Abbey Mills has 280 flats and is located on the banks of the river Wandle, between South Wimbledon and Colliers Wood.
