A look at residential land values: Savills highlights Manchester for leading growth
During 2017, urban land values rose 24% in Manchester, compared with the UK average of 4% growth, reports the global real estate services provider.
Savills’ research on ‘UK residential development land’, published in late January 2018, identifies strong house price growth in a relatively affordable market as a key reason behind Manchester’s leading position. The company points out that house prices increased by 8.6% (October 2016–October 2017), more than double the national average (4.2%). The number of land buyers bidding for residential sites across the city has also increased, including competitive offers from housing associations, not just PLCs.
Despite the ‘Beast from the East’ and heavy snowfall that hit the UK recently, we were fortunate enough to remain fully up and running. That’s all thanks to our dedicated people.
Getting to work proved a mission for many of our employees, including driving long distances, walking in and setting off early each crisp morning. Our Head Office, like so many businesses, seemed to be transported to Lapland for a few days. Thanks again to all who made it in and here’s to spring.

Property hotspots: Commuter towns
Property website Zoopla has just published its house price hotspots, following a study of commuter towns across the country. The study takes us from around the capital to near Newcastle.
Zoopla looked at annual house price data for towns found within an hour’s commute of ten UK cities: Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield. The property website found Swanley in Kent, with swift access to the capital, to be the best in terms of house price performance, with a 10.78% increase (equivalent to around £36,500 on average) over the previous year.
