Home and property shows: Dates for your 2018 diary
Spring and early summer 2018 look like a busy period for home and property shows. We preview a selection of events that are coming up.
From building your own place to renovating it, getting on the property ladder to adding the finishing touches to interiors, property shows offer lots of inspiration, new products, ideas and advice. We’ve picked half a dozen events to look forward to in 2018.
Gateway highlight: The Property Investor & Homebuyer Show
When: 20–21 April
Where: ExCel, London
The UK’s largest, and longest running, exhibition of UK and international property is made for anyone looking to invest in property, from novices to seasoned professionals. Entry is free, both to the show and the seminars. Over two days, a large audience of investors, home buyers, landlords and other residential property professionals come together at ExCel. London Home Show Spring 2018
When: 3 March
Where: Queen Elizabeth II Centre, Westminster, London
The London Home Show, supported by the Mayor of London, is run for first-time buyers in the capital. Visitors can meet the major providers of new properties for first-time buyers and find the latest information on the city’s affordable home ownership market, including Shared Ownership and Help to Buy. The event is free to attend, but tickets are essential.
The Ideal Home Show
When: 17 March–2 April
Where: Olympia, London
Founded in 1908, the Ideal Home Show is the country’s most well-known home show and the largest, running over 17 days this year. Past visitors have included HRH Queen Elizabeth II through to celebrities such as Tom Jones, members of the Rolling Stones and Martin Lewis (Money Saving Expert). The show has a reputation for championing the latest innovations and bright ideas, and offering plenty of shopping, eating and drinking opportunities. Home Interiors and Gardens are popular areas of the show and this year sees a new zone dedicated to Home Renovation.
Homebuilding & Renovating Show
When: 22–25 March
Where: NEC, Birmingham
Thinking about carrying out a major home project? This could be just the right show for you. Self-build specialists, renovation experts and leading brands come together under one roof. The show promises inspiration, products, advice, masterclasses, tricks of the trade, free seminars and more.
The show runs UK-wide throughout the rest of the year:
Glasgow (16–17 June), Surrey (30 June–1 July), London (21–23 Sept), Edinburgh (20–21 Oct), Harrogate (2–4 Nov) and Somerset (17–18 Nov).
Grand Designs Live
When: 5–13 May; 10–14 Oct
Where: ExCel, London; NEC, Birmingham
Based on the ever-popular Channel 4 series, and presented by Kevin McCloud, Grand Designs Live offers visitors expert advice, new product launches and specialist exhibitors across the themes of Build, Gardens, Interiors, Kitchens & Bathrooms and Technology. There is also a Design Arcade for home products that are that bit different.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show
When: 22–26 May
Where: London
The world’s most prestigious flower event is always a showcase of the best in garden design. 2018 will focus on smaller, urban gardens, with ideas on how to make the most of spaces that are typical of a town garden (Spaces to Grow Gardens). Elsewhere, look out for an English tea garden, a Mediterranean landscape, Artisan Gardens and blooms from leading nurseries in the Great Pavilion.
